Mosquito Lagoon Fishing
The Mosquito Lagoon is a prime area for Just about every outdoorsmen or women. It has also been published in many magazines and books as one of the top redfish and big trout areas in the US. This Lagoon is home to just about all species of wildlife in Florida , so many I can’t list them all. Several types of herons, spoonbills, osprey’s, eagles, and several other types of wildlife just to name a few. The Lagoon is full of lush grass flats as far as the eye can see for miles and miles. It is the most plentiful spot in this area for trout and red fishing. The water in this area stays clear and shallow throughout the year which makes it a great area for sight fishing. The shorelines are lined with mangrove and different marsh grasses. The Mosquito Lagoon is also a part of a wildlife refuge called the Canaveral National Seashore. The area surrounding this refuge is protected so there are no houses or buildings along the shorelines, just natural Florida at its best. This area has a lot of small creeks and small ponds where redfish and trout are protected from most of the predators. There are areas in this part of the lagoon where some fish have probably never seen a boat, which makes for some fantastic fishing. The Lagoon is where I consistently fish in the colder, windy months of the year being that it’s protected by small marshy islands.
